Cornelia van der Ziel, MD, is an obstetrician/gynecologist who works at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Cambridge and is a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. She coauthored Big, Beautiful and Pregnant, a book for plus-size women.  [back to list of contributors]

Cathryn Elise Brubaker, MA, is a doctoral candidate in sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her dissertation concerns sex, gender-role orientation, and health behavior engagement. Cheryl de Jong-Lambert is a senior development editor for Pearson Allyn & Bacon and an occasional freelance writer. She lives in Manhattan with her husband, William; son, Riley, age four; and daughter, Halina, who’s sixteen months old.   [back to list of contributors]

Khady Diouf, MD, grew up in Dakar, Senegal, and is pursuing her training in obstetrics/gynecology in Boston. She hopes to focus her skills on working with women in underserved communities.   [back to list of contributors]

Leah Diskin is raising two daughters, and writing, from home. Her master’s degree in anthropology is from Stanford University, where she focused on the social construction of gender. She is a daughter of an Our Bodies Ourselves founder.   [back to list of contributors]

Elizabeth Fabel has given birth to two beautiful daughters, one of whom died in infancy. She has a master’s degree from the Harvard School of Public Health and is a senior technical adviser at EngenderHealth, an international nonprofit agency.   [back to list of contributors]

Taran Jefferies is a research fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She immersed herself in sociology and molecular biology at Wesleyan University, and decided to dedicate herself to public health issues with a master’s degree from Harvard.   [back to list of contributors]

Lois Jovanovic, MD, is the chief scientifi c offi cer of the Sansum Diabetes Research Institute. She has written more than 250 articles on diabetes and obstetrics, as well as the American Diabetes Association publication Medical Management of Pregnancy Complicated by Diabetes.   [back to list of contributors]

Stacey Kabat is an Academy Award–winning human rights advocate. She has been recognized internationally for her work with battered women and children. Currently she works as a maternal child health nurse and lactation consultant in inner-city Boston.   [back to list of contributors]

Lauren Korfine is a home-birth mama, doula, birth activist, and lecturer in psychology and women’s studies. She received her degrees from Cornell and Harvard, but her education from her three children. She lives in Ithaca, New York, with her family.   [back to list of contributors]

Jacqueline Lapidus is an editorial consultant with extensive experience in the fields of health care, business, and travel, as well as a poet and essayist. For ten years she taught the writing component of Current Topics in Medicine at Harvard Extension School.   [back to list of contributors]

Margaret Lazarus is an Academy Award–winning documentary fi lmmaker who, with Renner Wunderlich, has made many fi lms about social justice for Cambridge Documentary Films. Mayri Sagady Leslie is a certified nursemidwife and faculty member at Georgetown University. She chairs the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services and is a leader with the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative, working to make mother- friendly maternity care a worldwide standard.   [back to list of contributors]

Patricia Lohr is an ob-gyn and a fellow in contraceptive research and family planning at Magee–Women’s Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She agrees with Spike Milligan, who said, “Contraceptives should be used on every conceivable occasion.”   [back to list of contributors]

Lisa Noguchi conducts anti-HIV vaginal microbicide research at the University of Pittsburgh. Andy Steiner is a freelance writer, author of Spilled Milk: Breastfeeding Adventures and Advice from Less-Than- Perfect Moms, and former senior editor at Utne Reader. She lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, with her husband and two daughters.
