Our Bodies Ourselves seeks Communications Intern

Our Bodies Ourselves, a nonprofit women's health education and advocacy organization, seeks an intern to work 10-12 hours per week during summer 2013 on a variety of tasks related to the redesign of the Our Bodies Ourselves website. The internship can be done remotely; strong online communication and collaborative work skills are required.

Specific tasks include:

• Review site content and check for broken links
  
  
• Help select content and resources for the new site, and obtain re-print permissions
  
  
• Assist with content migration
  
  
• Provide communications support as needed, including social media

Qualifications:

Applicants should have strong organizational and oral/written communication skills and experience with social media (primarily Facebook and Tumblr). Attention to detail, interpersonal skills, an interest in women’s health issues and/or nonprofit work, and the ability to work independently are also essential. 

About Us:

Our Bodies Ourselves (also known as the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective) is a global nonprofit, public interest organization based in Cambridge, Mass. OBOS promotes accurate, evidence-based information on girls' and women's reproductive health and sexuality, and addresses the social, economic and political conditions that affect health care access and quality of care. OBOS's landmark publication, "Our Bodies, Ourselves," first published in 1971, has been translated and adapted into 25 languages by women's groups around the world. Library Journal named the latest U.S. edition of "Our Bodies, Ourselves" (Simon & Schuster, 2011) one of the eight best consumer health books of the year.

OBOS's internship program provides opportunities for students and volunteers to participate in and contribute to the organization's valuable program work, while increasing their understanding of current social and political issues affecting women’s health. Opportunities to attend events, participate in issue-related conference calls, write for the blog, and meet and interact with leading women's health activists are available. Interns are encouraged take on responsibilities that match their interests and enhance their skills for post-graduate education or work.
